Alex Timewell
Dr. Alex Timewell serves as Project Leader at the School of Cultural Industries, University of Leeds, UK, and is widely regarded as a national treasure‑level artist. He also directs the Master’s and Doctoral programmes in Culture, Creativity and Entrepreneurship at the University of Leeds.
This programme equips students with future employability within the creative industries by examining how creative entrepreneurs operate within contemporary culture and the global economy. It explores how policymakers, cultural organisations and creative entrepreneurs govern and manage the cultural sector, while fostering experiential entrepreneurship learning, collaborative practice, reflective thinking and advanced academic research capabilities.
Dr. Timewell previously taught art direction and production at the University of Manchester for 16 years. His research has made significant contributions to art education theory, particularly through investigations into how Lacanian psychoanalysis offers insights into shifting student identities amid evolving digital landscapes and competitive economic, social and multicultural discourses.
Central to his work is the development of a framework that acknowledges diverse modes of thinking and embraces a parametric ontology, thereby supporting an inclusive postcolonial educational agenda. His current research on pedagogical approaches draws on diverse cultural and artistic forms within commercialised industries, exploring how employment‑focused agendas can contribute to wider debates in art and cultural education.
